Recently, I gave a private photography workshop to Peggy Burnet and her husband and toured them around to some of my favorite canyons in Arizona. We had a total blast and I couldn’t have asked for a better travel partner/student! Yep, you probably guessed right if you guessed the Grand Canyon was one of them, but did you know that Arizona and Utah are home to some of the world’s most incredible slot canyons? These are natures best kept secret and if you don’t know what a slot canyon is, check out my recent article on Venuelust.com highlighting the most picturesque ones and how to find them!
We first went to the most famous slot canyon of all, Upper Antelope Canyon, then hit the lesser known and far less crowded Rattlesnake Canyon, and then drove to stay overnight at the Grand Canyon to wake up for sunrise and do an early morning mini hike and day two of our workshop there. There were elk everywhere and the weather was absolutely perfect! I love teaching private workshops, because I can really teach a person about their specific camera and settings, my “special sauce” or the way I color treat my images, and even learn how to renegade light your subject on location or in a jam with your cell phone if necessary!
