Lisa and Jeff’s Manhattan Beach Engagement Shoot

There’s a common misconception that February 29th (better known as Leap Day) is Sadie Hawkins Day. Although that isn’t the case, February 29th does hold significance for women thanks to an old Irish tradition called St. Bridget’s Complaint, which granted women permission to propose marriage on that day….

This simple fact was being talked about on NPR on February 29th of this year when Lisa was driving to work, sparking the idea in her head of proposing to Jeff herself!  She had only a few hours left of actual Leap Year, so she rushed after work to buy him a wedding ring, rushed home, asked him to play a song for her on their piano in the living room, and then got down on one knee and proposed to him…and he said YES!

It took two meetings to get this story out of her and I LOVED IT!  In all of my years of being a wedding photographer, this was a first for me! So I of course said that we had to incorporate the piano in their engagement photos, as well as the beach in front of their house where they hang out and play beach volleyball together, and then a few fun spots around their hood in Manhattan Beach.  We had SUCH a great time, the best weather, and most glorious view of Palos Verdes in the distance…foreshadowing to their wedding.  I LOVE their story, their energy and I am very excited to be documenting their wedding:)
