Inspired by vintage and modern-day Southern fashion, our shoot at Musgrove Plantation highlights a modern Bridal Tea Party filled with old and new traditions fused together to celebrate Southern family traditions while being a trendsetter.
Our bride, Jordanna Ellington, loves non-traditional things...but also wanted to respect her family. She had recently gotten engaged, and it was a tradition to have a "Bridal Tea Party" at her family's plantation. Some of the traditions of an "Ellington girl" that is getting married is having a High Tea Party where all of the ladies come wearing an old wedding dress of one of your family members...and of course come with the story of the wedding dress...this made for some grand stories around the table over champagne and scones!
The looks are a mixture of inspiration from Beyonce’s Formation video filmed in the South with a female entourage to classics like “Gone with the Wind”. Jordanna wanted to have a modern day spin on what a Bridal Tea Party at Musgrove would look like. This included influences of lemon everything, a formal invitation asking her bridesmaids, “Will you Bee my bridesmaid?", to chairs that say “Queen Bee”, and edible bees on the individual mini-cakes, all a nod to Beyonce Miss "Queen Bee" herself.
Some of the fun activities the girls enjoyed during the bridal tea included horse back riding while picking wild flowers, a braid bar, gossiping on lounge furniture under a grove of Oaks trees, cocktails and mini desserts on the waterfront, and fun in a carriage that dated back to the early 1900's...used as a perfect backdrop for their vintage photo booth.
Musgrove Plantation is a little Hidden gem situated at the quieter north end of St. Simons Island. Each year, Musgrove is host to a limited number of weddings for those lucky enough to be selected. Featuring sweeping drives through forests of live oaks adorned with Spanish moss, a maze garden, low-country style residences, endless activities, a waterfront backdrop and stunning sunsets, and even carriages that date back to the early 1900s, Musgrove is a wedding destination like no other.
